Welcome to Katy Webster Homeware

I’m Katy and I work from my home studio in Hertfordshire, UK designing and sewing homeware products. Originally from Edinburgh, I lived overseas 2003-2017. When we returned to the UK I found it really difficult to get back into the workplace as I hadn’t worked since having my daughter. My homeware business started very organically in 2019. I was shopping for a new table runner but couldn’t find any I liked in all the usual big stores. I realised it would be simple enough for me to source some fabric and make one myself - especially as I had time on my hands. The thing is... I didn’t own a sewing machine and hadn’t sewn anything since the age of 12 in home economics class . Undeterred, I ordered a very basic machine then true to form left it sitting in the box for a few weeks, before plucking up the courage to thread it and watch a few YouTube videos. I haven’t stopped sewing since.

I started with a simple table runner for myself, then decided to make more to sell at school Christmas fairs before setting up an Etsy shop at the end of 2019. My timing was fortunate as the online shopping boom during the pandemic gave my shop a real boost. I spent most of 2020 sewing face masks which allowed me to establish my reputation on Etsy. My product range continues to be fairly wide ranging while I test items for popularity though the humble draft excluder is by far my biggest seller. In general my focus is on delivering functional homewares combined with contemporary, minimalist style. Everything I sell is handmade, photographed, marketed, packed and posted by myself. It’s exhausting at times but I love it!
